During the height of COVID-19, the Governor of Connecticut temporarily paused certain zoning regulations to help restaurants stay afloat by allowing outdoor seating. It was a lifeline for many local businesses, and it worked!
But when the emergency pause ended, restaurants were required to follow local zoning rules for outdoor dining spaces. That includes making sure tables, merchandise, signage, and other outdoor setups do not block accessible parking spots or ramps.
The ADA requires a minimum number of accessible parking spaces based on lot size.
Each space must meet specific width, signage, and access aisle requirements.
Let’s keep our communities welcoming for everyone. Accessible parking is not optional, it’s a legal right and a matter of dignity and safety.
Have questions about accessible parking or compliance? We’re here to help!
